Congressional Black Caucus Calls for an End to the Blockade Against Cuba

Washington, May 25, 2026. — The Congressional Black Caucus raised its voice against the oil blockade imposed on Cuba and called on the U.S. administration to lift the economic sanctions that, according to the organization, have worsened the humanitarian crisis on the island.

In a letter addressed to President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the legislative group described the policy of economic pressure as “barbaric” and blamed the current coercive measures for the deterioration of living conditions for the Cuban people.

The statement was supported by Congressional Black Caucus Chair Yvette D. Clarke, who said the organization would not remain silent in the face of the impact of the sanctions.

“Enough is enough! The Congressional Black Caucus will not stand idly by while this administration continues this barbaric policy that is causing unimaginable human suffering in Cuba,” the statement said.

The organization denounced that the oil blockade and the tightening of sanctions have led to rising infant mortality, the threat of famine, and a general deterioration in living standards in the Caribbean nation.

“Under the oil blockade and the tightening of sanctions imposed by this administration, Cubans are dying,” the text stressed.

In a press release published on its official website, the Congressional Black Caucus reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to policies promoting peace, justice, and international cooperation, while rejecting the “draconian” measures applied against Cuba.

“We demand an end to the oil blockade, the lifting of sanctions against Cuba, and that the Cuban people be allowed access to the most basic resources they need to survive on the island,” the organization stated.

The statement adds to growing voices within the United States questioning the humanitarian impact of economic sanctions and calling for a reassessment of U.S. policy toward Cuba.
