Dublin, December 2020. The Cork City Council practically unanimously agreed to nominate the Henry Reeve Cuban Medical Brigade for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize.
The decision of the City Council bases its decision to “recognise and honour the Brigade, which was founded in 2005, for its services to the peoples of mainly developing countries, but since the outbreak of Covid-19, to European countries as well, such as Spain and Italy. Cuba, despite its economic limitations due to the illegal blockade being waged against it by the US and intensified by the Trump regime, has through the Henry Reeve Medical Brigade, been a world leader in the fight against not just Covid-19 but other, even more deadly public health emergencies, such as Ebola”.
This decision is in addition to numerous previous statements issued by 46 Irish parliamentarians, political parties, various organizations and academics; all of which place Ireland and its solidarity movement prominently in the international campaign promoting Henry Reeve's nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.
We reiterate our deep gratitude to all of them.
