“Cuba after Castro” documentary premieres in Johannesburg.

Johannesburg, 20 June 2026 — The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in South Africa, in collaboration with various solidarity organisations, presented the BreakThrough News documentary “Cuba after Castro” at The Forge (Johannesburg). The event was attended by more than 70 people and was received with great interest by the local community and representatives of solidarity organisations.

The screening  was followed by a wide-ranging debate on the true reality of Cuba, during which claims and prejudices spread by distorted media coverage against our country were debunked. The gathering also served as a forum to highlight the solidarity with Cuba that remains unwavering within South African society.

The Embassy would like to express its sincere thanks to The Forge for its warm welcome and for providing a suitable venue for the gathering and cultural exchange.

We would also like to thank Pan Africanism Today, the International Peoples’ Assembly and FOCUS-Western Cape for their commitment and support in organizing the event, as well as the documentary’s filmmakers, Abby Martin and Matthew Belen, for making this valuable audiovisual material available, which contributes to knowledge and reflection on Cuba.

The Embassy reiterates its willingness to continue promoting cultural activities and forums for dialogue that strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Cuba and the South African community.
