Cuba and EU discuss cooperation and renewable energies.

Representatives of Cuba and the European Union (EU) installed today in this capital the Subcommittee on Cooperation to evaluate bilateral ties and exchanged criteria on energy transition in the challenging scenario of climate change.

The parties thus gave continuity to the IV Cycle of Implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the EU, signed in 2016, meetings that are in session from April 18 to 26 with a broad program on the table.

Highlighted in the discussions are the island's opportunities in the implementation of the Global Gateway, the European strategy to boost smart, clean and secure links worldwide in areas ranging from digital, energy and transport to health, education and research.

The Cooperation Subcommittee is headed by Cuba's Director of Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment, Alba Rosa Alarcon, and the host, the European Commission's Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Felix Fernandez-Shaw.

The agenda includes talks on the development of renewable energy sources, in particular competitiveness and the Antillean nation's access to financing mechanisms in this field.

They also highlighted the prospects for investment from the EU in the Cuban biotechnology sector, economic modernization and common visions on women and youth empowerment.

The Cuban delegation reiterated the island's commitment to the implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the EU and valued its relevance for a sincere and constructive approach to the most diverse issues.

For her part, the island's ambassador to Belgium and the EU, Yaira Jiménez, highlighted the broad program of activities accompanying this IV Cycle, including meetings with Belgian and European counterparts.

In this regard, the diplomat mentioned meetings in recent hours with the Legal and Claims Coordinator of the European group related to credit insurance and risk insurance Credendo, Romanie Peters, and with officials of the European Investment Bank.
