CUBA AND THE FREE STATE PROVINCE IN SOUTH AFRICA EVALUATE COOPERATION IN HEALTH MATTERS

Cuban Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson held a meeting in the city of Bloemfontein with the Minister of Health of the South African province of Free State, which reviewed the current status and prospects of cooperation in the field of health.

Both parties agreed to evaluate favorably the implementation of cooperation projects currently underway in that territory, which has almost fifty Cuban doctors, including several who serve as directors of important hospitals, based on the demonstrated professionalism and prestige gained as a result of years of work dedicated to the noble work of contributing to the health of the few less than 3 million inhabitants of that province.

Minister Tsiu acknowledged the excellent work and effort carried out by all the Cuban medical aid workers in that region, often located in remote rural areas. He also thanked the valuable support provided by Cuba for the training as doctors in our country of hundreds of young people of the province.

The Cuban Ambassador conveyed the commitment of the Island's authorities not only to maintain, but also to continue to strengthen the cooperation in health that the South African people need and appreciates, taking into account the historic bonds of camaraderie and solidarity that unite Cuba with that African country brother.

The Cuban representative also sent an invitation to the provincial Minister to visit our country.
