Helsinki, September 28, 2018. The bilateral ties between Cuba and Latvia were analyzed on September 26, during a meeting held by the Cuban Ambassador Eduardo Lazo Pérez with H.E. Mr. Andris Pelšs, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, as part of the visit made by the Cuban diplomat to the capital of the Baltic country.
Both interlocutors highlighted the willingness to expand bilateral ties between Cuba and Latvia, and to promote dialogue between the respective foreign ministries. At the same time, they highlighted the determination of both countries to contribute to the development of the relations between Cuba and the European Union, taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the provisional implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement signed between the Caribbean island and the community bloc.
The Cuban Ambassador, concurrent from Helsinki, used the occasion to thank the position adopted by Latvia, shared with the other Member States of the European Union, against the unjust economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for almost six decades.
Prior to this meeting, the Ambassador also had the opportunity to talk with Mr. Edgars Trumkalns, Head of Division of Americas and the Caribbean of the Foreign Ministry and with counselor Gundega Pumpure, official of the aforementioned department (Report: Embassy of Cuba to Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania).
