Havana, September 26, 2022.- The Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elio Rodríguez Perdomo, and the Undersecretary of State, Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, H.E. Mr. Andžejs Vilumsons, presided over, on Monday morning, the Inter-Ministerial Political Consultations between the two countries.
During the meeting, both delegations reviewed the state of political-diplomatic relations and the cultural and economic-commercial ties between Latvia and Cuba.
The Cuban Vice Foreign Minister reiterated his country's willingness to develop bilateral ties based on mutual respect, cooperation and dialogue, and thanked Latvia for its historic position in favor of the United Nations General Assembly resolution condemning the US blockade against the Cuban people.
For his part, Vilumsons recognized the existing possibilities to increase support in multilateral organizations between both nations and reiterated the will of his government to continue working to strengthen ties with the Greater Antilles.
The Latvian diplomat was accompanied by Her Excellency Ms. Sanita Pavļuta-Deslande, itinerant Ambassador for Global and Multilateral Affairs of the Latvian Foreign Ministry, and Ms. Gundega Pumpure, Counselor of the Americas and the Caribbean Division of the same ministry.
Participating on the Cuban side were Ángel Villa Hernández, Deputy Director General of Bilateral Affairs, Gisela García Rivera, Director of Europe and Canada, and Yiliam Gómez Sardiñas, official of the General Department of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba. among other officials.
