Cuba and South Africa celebrate XVII Joint Consultative Mechanism

Pretoria, March 28, 2023.- The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Elio Rodríguez Perdomo, and the South African Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Alvin Botes, chaired the XVII Joint Consultative Mechanism between Cuba and South Africa on Tuesday morning.

The meeting allowed both parties to exchange on bilateral relations, regional, multilateral and international issues of common interest and reaffirm the solid and excellent ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, the South African side reiterated its support for the Cuban resolution on the need to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba, which is presented annually at the United Nations General Assembly, and reaffirmed the rejection unrestricted to the inclusion of Cuba in the spurious and unilateral list of countries that sponsor terrorism.

Both delegations recognized the need to expand economic and trade relations. In this sense, they agreed to share information on commercial and investment opportunities, exchange commercial delegations and facilitate participation in the main trade fairs and exhibitions of the two countries.

They also exchanged on the main events in the respective regions and it was agreed to deepen cooperation through the NAM and the G-77 plus China, of which Cuba holds the presidency.

The XVII Meeting of Inter-Foreign Ministry Political Consultations contributed to strengthening the historical ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Cuba and South Africa.
