Pretoria, November 5, 2025.- The Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to South Africa, Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo, was welcomed at the University of Pretoria by Professor Sunil Maharaj, Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Postgraduate Education, and Dr. Rakeshnie Ramoutar-Prieschl, Director of International Relations and Strategic Partnerships.
The meeting was productive, with discussions focusing on potential areas for bilateral cooperation in academic research and the significant potential for exchange in this sector. They also emphasised the significance of forging a connection between the university and the community, particularly in addressing shared challenges such as climate change, food security, health development, energy transition, science, artificial intelligence, among others.
It was agreed that we would continue working together to promote joint projects that would benefit both parties, with a particular focus on establishing partnerships between this institution and Cuban universities.
