Cape Town, July 06, 2023 - Cuba and South Africa held the 7th Joint Academic Meeting of Deans of Medical Schools from both countries. The event was chaired by the South African Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Sibongiseni Dhlomo and Dr. Fidela Reyes Obediente, Director of Pre-Graduate Studies of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health.
The meeting, held at the University of Cape Town, is part of the activities leading up to the graduation ceremony of medical students who completed their studies through the Nelson Mandela/Fidel Castro Medical Partnership Program, followed by 18 months of integration at local universities.
“These academic meetings are held annually to prepare for the graduation ceremony, exchange scientific knowledge, discuss issues affecting the program and ensure a smooth integration of the Cuban-trained students into local medical schools”, explained the South African Department of Health.
