Pretoria, February 9, 2022.- The Deputy Director General for the Americas and Europe of the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), H.E. Mr. Maud Dlomo, received today the Ambassador of Cuba, Enrique Orta González at the headquarters of the South African Foreign Ministry.
The senior South African official thanked Cuba for its decisive role in the struggles against the apartheid regime in South Africa and colonialism in the African region and underlined how Cuban aid continues to be present on the continent in various spheres of cooperation, including which highlighted those related to health and education. She, in turn, highlighted Cuba's efforts in international solidarity aid in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic with the production of vaccines.
The Cuban representative referred to the historic ties of friendship and cooperation that unite both nations and reiterated the will of the Cuban government to deepen relations, while thanking the invariable solidarity of South Africa with Cuba in the fight against the blockade. For her part, Mrs. Dlomo ratified the decision of the South African government to maintain its support for the island in the face of the US blockade.
Pointing out issues associated with upcoming projects on the bilateral agenda, both parties agreed on the good state of relations between the two countries, while ratifying the mutual interest in continuing to expand and diversify ties in the economic and commercial order.
Also participating on the South African side were the Director for Mexico, Central America and the Andean Community of DIRCO, Mr. Mohamed Cassimjee, and officials from that Directorate, Mrs. Fransie Cooper and Mr. Joe Erasmus. The Cuban Ambassador was accompanied by the second secretary of the Embassy of Cuba, Dianelis Forestal Mejías.
