Cuba and St. Kitts and Nevis highlight brotherhood and mutual support
Havana, May 22, 2025: Cuba and St. Kitts and Nevis today ratified their brotherhood and interest in strengthening ties in various areas, during the official reception offered by President Miguel Díaz-Canel to his counterpart from Saint Christopher and Nevis, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew.
The Cuban President expressed his satisfaction with the visit to the Prime Minister of the Caribbean country and thanked him for the firm position of the dignitary, who recently rejected the attempt of the head of U.S. diplomacy, Marco Rubio, to discredit Cuba's medical missions abroad.
Díaz-Canel also recognized the unconditional support of Saint Kitts and Nevis for the end of the economic, financial, and commercial blockade of the White House, and the exclusion of the largest Antillean Island from the list of nations that, according to Washington, sponsor terrorism.
He also highlighted the personal attention that the Caribbean leader gives to the Cuban medical brigades present in that nation, which, he said, increases their commitment to the noble task they conduct.
The President highlighted his affection for the 49-year-old Caribbean politician, who graduated in 2004 from Medicine in Villa Clara (central Cuba), whom he considered "a brother and a friend who possesses by conviction -and through that profession- a humanist perspective towards his people."
Both dignitaries praised the excellent bilateral relations that have reached their 30th anniversary since the formalization of diplomatic ties on May 10, 1995.
"I am very happy to have come; Cuba has been a friend of St. Kitts and Nevis, and we maintain relations of positivity and respect," said Drew, who arrived in this capital for the first time as premier of St. Kitts and Nevis.
The dignitary ratified the affection and admiration for Cubans "forged during my training here between 1998 and 2004" and recalled the Cuban support to deal with the effects of the Covid 19 pandemic in the Federation.
He also expressed the willingness to continue strengthening cooperation in all sectors, mainly medical collaboration, biotechnological production, and scholarships for students in his nation.
Present at the reception were Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, First Deputy Minister of Public Health, Tania Margarita Cruz, and other officials from both governments.
In the afternoon, the Prime Minister placed a wreath before the effigy of the National Hero, José Martí, at the Memorial in his name located in Havana's ‘Plaza de la Revolución.’
