Cuba and the United Kingdom strengthen academic ties around historical memory

London, February 18, 2025. -In a simple and heartfelt ceremony, the deputy director of the Fidel Castro Center, Sissi Abay Diaz, delivered the Fidel Castro Reflections Collection, a set of five volumes that were received by Par Kumaraswami, director of the Cuba Research Forum of the University of Nottingham and Antony Kapcia, deputy director of the entity.

During the meeting it was also agreed to deliver 2 terabytes of publications to be digitized in accordance with Cuban and international copyright regulations, an initiative that is in line with the Decree-Law of the National System of Documentary Management and Archives of Cuba and the regulations for the transparency and declassification of historical documents, approved by the National Assembly of People's Power.

For his part, Delio Orozco González donated a copy of Mil fotos Cuba, a photographic work that traces the island's history from pre-Columbian times to 1966. He also highlighted the importance of Orto magazine, the longest-running publication of the Republic of Cuba, which was in force between 1912 and 1957.

Another topic discussed was the proposal of the Route of the Revolution, a historical-cultural tour through Bartolomé Masó, Manzanillo and Bayamo. This project, promoted by Par Kumaraswami and Antony Kapcia, seeks to rescue testimonies and documents on Cuban history, generating new research and academic publications.

The Cuba Research Forum, the only documentation center of its kind on the Americas in the United Kingdom, reaffirmed with these activities its role as a reference in academic cooperation and the preservation of Cuba's historical heritage.
