On February 14, 2018, a first technical exchange was held in Washington D.C. between authorities from Cuba and the United States charged with the prevention and combat against trafficking in persons and child sexual abuse. This exchange falls within the context of the law enforcement dialogue between both countries.
During the meeting, both parties talked about the experiences gained in the prevention and combat against these crimes, the common challenges they face, and the actions of cooperation that need to be coordinated between the relevant authorities of both countries.
The Cuban representatives underlined their zero-tolerance policy in the face of these crimes and discussed the main actions undertaken by the country in the combat against the trafficking in persons and the child sexual abuse. Both delegations shared the view to strengthen bilateral cooperation and to increase the coordination of actions to ensure that people act determinedly against these crimes and those who commit them.
The Cuban delegation was composed of representatives of the Ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs, the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, while the U.S. delegation was composed of officials of the Departments of Homeland Security, Justice and State.
Both delegations shared the view on the importance to continue holding these technical exchanges in the future and to coordinate the next steps that may contribute to the prevention and combat against these crimes.
