Cuba announces on May 16th new important migratory-consular measures for the benefit of Cubans residing abroad

Ernesto Soberón, general director of the General Directorate of Consular Affairs and Attention to Cubans Resident Abroad (DACCRE) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) of Cuba announces important new immigration measures to benefit Cubans residing abroad and the relations with their relatives on the island, which will enter into force as of July 1, 2023

1. Extend the validity of passports to 10 years for those over 16 years of age and 5 years for minors, eliminate the extension requirement of the Passport and reduce the cost of passports in consulates, setting a fee of 180 USD/Euros for those over 16 years of age and 140 USD/Euros for minors.

2. Equate the length of stay in Cuba of Cubans residing abroad and their foreign relatives (spouses and children).

3. Establish, for emigrants before 01/01/1971, the use of a Cuban passport when entering Cuba; according to new Constitution.

4. The extension of stay abroad announced in March 2020, remains in force, beyond 24 months, automatic and free of charge, with the aim of supporting Cubans who were abroad during a critical period of Covid-19.

These measures are added to others, adopted during the last 45 years, aimed at facilitating Cuban travel abroad, their return to Cuba and increasing their participation in the political, economic and social life of their country of origin.

More details about these migratory-consular measures will be informed in the next few hours, through the Round Table of Cuban Television, the Nation and Emigration websites, of the Directorate of Identification, Immigration and Foreigners (DIIE) of the Ministry of the Interior ( MININT) and Cuban consulates.

Cuba ratifies, once again, the path undertaken with the Dialogue with representatives of the Cuban Community Abroad, in 1978 under the guidance of Fidel Castro and the will of our government to continue strengthening ties with our nationals abroad.
