Cuba approaches Turku in Finland

Helsinki, April 10, 2021.- The city of Turku on the southwest coast of Finland, hosted activities dedicated to Cuba last weekend, starting with the visit of Ambassador Beatriz Parra González to this town considered the most country old.

During her stay, the Cuban diplomat exchanged with Mr. Mika Akkanen, manager for International Affairs of the Government of the City, with whom she discussed the potential of the links between institutions of Cuba and Turku, and addressed issues of the national reality, particularly the impact of the blockade on daily life in Cuba and the popular consultation of the Family Code, among other issues. The local authority, for its part, highlighted the popularity that the Greater Antilles has in the territory as a tourist destination, with a large flow of visitors prior to the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Cuban Head of Mission also spoke with the rector of Åbo Academi, Mikael Lindfelt, present at this meeting. After a pleasant talk with the rector of one of the main academic institutions of the city, the Ambassador highlighted the importance of deepening the academic ties between institutions of both territories with topics of coincidence and international current affairs.

In the afternoon, the Cuban diplomat shared at the Linnatteatteri Theater with an audience interested in learning about Cuba and its national reality. In this space, he referred to the damage that the blockade has generated in the national economy, perceptible in the daily life of the people. Similarly, he highlighted the process of updating the national economy and addressed other aspects associated with cultural and sports development in the country. In an aside, he referred to the scope of Cuban biotechnology, whose most relevant results in recent times include three vaccines and two anti-Covid-19 vaccine candidates.

The Ambassador also greeted other sympathetic friends who came to say hello and express their admiration for Cuba.
