The Ambassador of Cuba in Tehran and concurrent in Baghdad, Vladimir González Quesada, met with his Iraqi counterpart, Rageh Al-Musawi, to review the bilateral relations between the Island and the Arab nation.
Having been informed about the decision of the Cuban government to present the next October 26th, 2016 the draft resolution to the United Nations General Assembly, demanding the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against our country, the Iraqi diplomat expressed that Cuba can always count on Iraq’s support in its fight against the blockade.
He also commented that the Iraqi people know very well the serious consequences of a blockade like this because his country has also been subjected to severe international sanctions. He added that a nation like Cuba, because of the dignity and the strength of its people and its revolutionary leaders, deserves broad international support, which Iraq offers.
The Cuban Ambassador thanked Al-Musawi’s statement and in return he said that Iraq will find in Cuba permanent support to fight the scourge of terrorism that today afflicts the Mesopotamian country.
During the meeting both diplomats also reviewed the pending bilateral issues, with emphasis on the necessary accreditation of the Ambassador of Iraq in Brazil, Arshad Omar Esmaeel, who already has the correspondent agreement of the Cuban government to be accredited as concurrent in Havana.
