Cuba celebrates 32 anniversary of medical collaboration in Belize.

Belmopan, Dec 5 (Prensa Latina) Cuban health professionals celebrated the Latin American Medicine Day and the 32nd anniversary of medical collaboration in this Central American country, a diplomatic source reported on Monday.

At the ceremony, presided over by Cuban Ambassador Maria Caridad Balaguer, Consul Gustavo Aguinaga and doctor Maria del Carmen Lozada, the most outstanding medical professionals in 2022 across the nation were granted a prize.

In addition, Cuban authorities that attended the ceremony saw off a group of collaborators who concluded with outstanding results their internationalist mission in favor of public health care of the people of Belize.

These specialists gave the Cuban ambassador a painting of Historic Leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro, the architect of Cuban medical services in the world.

At the end of this event, held at the Xunantunich archaeological reserve in Benque Viejo del Carmen, a Mayan cultural heritage site, participants were explained the history of this place and visited its ruins.

Health collaboration between Cuba and Belize began on Dec.8, 1990, and now over a hundred Cuban health collaborators provide their services here.

The Cuban Brigade of the Henry Reeve International Contingent of Specialized Doctors in Disaster Situations and Serious Epidemics successfully worked to curb the Covid-19 pandemic in this Central American nation.

Last April, the ministers of Health from both nations, Jose A. Portal and Kevin Bernard, agreed to expand cooperation at a ceremony in Havana headed by First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, and Belizean Prime Minister John Antonio Briceño.
