Cuba celebrates anniversary of the Community of Caribbean States.

The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs releases a congratulatory message on the occasion of today's 51st anniversary of the creation of the Community of Caribbean States (Caricom).

Published on X (formerly Twitter), accompanied by the hashtag #CaribeUnido, the text assures that the occasion is "propitious to reaffirm solidarity and maintain the spirit of unity and brotherhood of our Caribbean nations".

Founded in 1973, replacing the Caribbean Free Trade Association that was instituted in 1965, Caricom is an organization to strengthen relations in the Caribbean, with headquarters in Georgetown, Guyana.

It is made up of 15 nations, most of them English-speaking, while Aruba, Colombia, Curacao, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Sint Maarten and Venezuela participate in the dynamics of the group as observers.

Cuba and Caricom maintain a relationship of solidarity and collaboration, especially with respect to the development of human capacities, the provision of health services and cooperation in disaster situations.
