Havana, May 03, 2023 - The first International Congress on Cultural Heritage, which will be held from the 3rd to the 5th of May, began today in the Cuban capital with the presence of more than 150 participants from 16 countries. South Africa will be represented by the CEO and the Chairperson of Freedom Park, Jane Mufamadi and Hlengiwe Christophina Mgabadeli, respectively, who are visiting Cuba.
The Congress programme includes, among the most important activities, several keynote lectures, including "Challenges of World Heritage and the future of the Convention", by the director of the World Heritage Centre, Lazare Eloundou Assomo, and "The heritage legacy of José Martí", by the director of the Centre for Martí Studies, Eduardo Torres-Cuevas. In addition, the participants will take a tour of Havana's historic centre, lay wreaths in the courtyard of the San Francisco de Asís convent and inaugurate an exhibition of various workshop schools there.
The CEO of Freedom Park, Jane Mufamadi, will deliver a lecture about "Freedom Park as a place of remembrance and memory" to highlight the work of this institution in maintaining the cultural and historical heritage of the mother continent.
