Cuba celebrates May Day in Finland

Primero de Mayo

Helsinki, April 30, 2022.- A few hours before the start of the traditional May Day march in Cuba, a group of friends and Cubans residing in Finland celebrated the date this Saturday, with music, poetry and stories that unite the two countries.

At the meeting, representatives of the Left Youth of Finland made an artistic presentation with the choral interpretation of the work "I am a communist". For their part, the Cubans presented songs from the traditional repertoire, including the well-known "Hasta Siempre Comandante" and "Guantanamera." During the performance of the latter, listening to the simple verses of José Martí in the Finnish language was particularly significant, thanks to compatriots who maintain their roots in this Nordic country.

In the words of welcome, Ambassador Beatriz Parra González referred to what each May Day in Cuba historically represents, when the people parade with joy and show the majority support for the Cuban social project. He commented on the particularities of this parade, which is being resumed throughout the country after having control of the Covid-19 pandemic, thanks to Cuba's biotechnological results, promoted by the historical leader Fidel Castro, which allow the island to count today with their own shots and show commendable results.

Militants from the Communist Youth and historical friends of solidarity with Cuba participated, along with a cheerful group of Cubans living in Finland. During the celebrations, other nationals came to greet the Mission and sent their accompanying messages to the date.
