The Official Mourning established as a tribute to the 13 brave and selfless soldiers who died in the Military Region of Holguín, will extend from 06:00 hours until 12:00 at night, on January 20, 2025.

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, decreed this Sunday Official Mourning in Cuba, from 06:00 hours until 12:00 at night, on January 20, 2025.

«With deep consternation our people learned that thirteen brave and selfless soldiers, with exemplary conduct during the service, died in the attempt to put out a fire in a work that stored war material from the Military Region of Holguín, in the Eastern Army, at imminent risk of his own life, to avoid the occurrence of a catastrophe," indicates the Head of State in Presidential Decree 956, contained in the Official Gazette of the Republic, in its extraordinary edition No. 1 of 2025.

He adds that, as a fair tribute to the thirteen soldiers fallen in the line of duty, in the exercise of the powers conferred by Article 128, paragraph ñ) of the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba, he indicates this tribute.

It is ordered that during the validity of the Official Mourning the flag of the lone star be raised at half-mast in public buildings and military institutions. The ministers of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the Interior and Foreign Affairs are responsible for compliance with the provisions.

This Monday, at nine in the morning, in the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Calixto García, in the province of Holguín, the posthumous tribute ceremony for the combatants will take place.

From Finland, our support in these hours of pain, and our condolences to the family and friends.

Eternal glory to the young combatants!
