Havana, September 28, 2024.- Cuba extended until January 31, 2025 the non-commercial import of food, toiletries, medicines and medical supplies, as accompanied baggage and exempt from paying customs tax. According to Resolution 311 of the Ministry of Finance and Prices, published in the 45th (extraordinary) edition of the Official Gazette, the decision will be made on an exceptional basis.
The increase in the limit of the customs value for non-commercial imports made by natural persons through shipments, up to 500 USD, is also maintained. The exemption from payment of customs tax for the first 30 dollars of the value, or its equivalent weight of 3 kg of the shipment, also remains, and only the excess of the tariff rate of 30% will be applied.
Regarding food, toiletries, medicines and supplies imported by natural persons as air, sea and postal shipments, a limit of up to 200 USD or a weight of up to 20 kg is authorized. The document also states that the benefits of the regulations apply on the condition that items classified as food or toiletries, as well as those identified as medicines and medical supplies that are part of the passenger's luggage, are presented to customs in packages separate from the rest of the products.
The regulations will come into force on October 1, 2024.
