Helsinki, November 23rd.- On the afternoon of Tuesday, November 23rd, the Central Activity for the 5th Anniversary of the passing to immortality of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, was held in the Finnish capital.
The activity was attended by several friends from the Finland-Cuba Friendship Association, the Communist Party and Youth of Finland, as well as other friends of the Revolution in this Nordic country.
In his opening remarks, the Charge d'Affaires a.i of the Island in Helsinki, Víctor Manuel Rodríguez Etcheverry highlighted Fidel's legacy for the new generations, as well as his fruitful political, revolutionary and human career, sowing imperishable values among Cubans and generating admiration in friends around the world and even among his own adversaries. "Fidel was an extraclass statesman and a leading figure in the history of the twentieth century. A founding man with a deep humanist sense and anti-imperialist thought, faithful heir to the independence ideals bequeathed by the Mambises and promoter of Marti's ideology, he earned the respect of the whole world and the affection of an entire people".
The afternoon's cultural moment was nuanced by the screening of the multi-award-winning documentary by Cuban director Roberto Chile, "Fidel is Fidel", which preceded an exchange and debate on the transcendental impact of his figure for Cuba and for the world.
From Birán, Holguín, on August 13th, 1926 to Helsinki, Finland, on November 23rd itself, his legacy is and will be the most precious treasure of the Cuban nation. From Cuba to Finland: Fidel is Fidel.
