Havana, January 28th.- Each Martian idea is an impregnable bastion for the defense of the Cuban homeland, an incitement to one's own thinking, an inexhaustible source to grow and a nutrient for the rebellious and revolutionary spirit for our people.
Floral offerings from the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro Ruz; the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez; the head of the National Assembly and the Council of State, Esteban Lazo Hernández; as well as the people of Cuba, were deposited yesterday at the foot of the mausoleum that keeps the mortal remains of the National Hero José Martí, in the Santa Ifigenia heritage cemetery, in Santiago de Cuba.
On the occasion of commemorating the 169th anniversary of his birth, the ceremony -which was attended by the highest political and governmental authorities of the territory- was led by young students from the Camilo Cienfuegos Military School, from the eastern province, who performed the traditional change of the Guard of Honor, started on May 19, almost two decades ago, reported the Sierra Maestra newspaper.
On the day itself, but in the tribute paid to the Apostle at the José Martí Memorial in Havana, Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, a member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party and head of its Ideological Department, stated that "facing the unconventional war against Cuba, Martí's thought is indispensable as the heritage of the Cuban people for the battles of the present and the future».
In the act –with the presence of Esteban Lazo Hernández– the reissue of the work Páginas Escogidas by José Martí was presented, a selection of writings made by Roberto Fernández Retamar; a moment that marked the beginning of a long journey for the 170 years of the birth of the Master, which will culminate with the 5th International Conference For the Balance of the World, in January 2023.
“There are Martian concepts that we must take care of. Each Martian idea is an impregnable bastion for the defense of the Cuban Homeland, an incitement to one's own thinking, an inexhaustible source to grow, and a nutrient for the rebellious and revolutionary spirit for our people," said Eduardo Torres-Cuevas, director of the Office of the Martian Program.
Just at noon this Friday, in military ceremonies held simultaneously in the Fortress of San Carlos de la Cabaña, in Havana, and in the Santa Ifigenia cemetery, in Santiago de Cuba, the firing of 21 cannon salutes honored the memory of the National Hero of Cuba.
