The International Conference Cuba 2024, Decade of People of African Descent, Equality – Equity – Social Justice, will be held in Havana and Matanzas. The extensive program of this event was explained last Thursday 28 November, at a Press Conference at the International Press Center in Havana, by Rolando Julio Rensoli, president of the Organizing Committee of the event and secretary of the executive coordinating group of the Cuban Color program against racism and racial discrimination. The Head of the Cuba Office of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Marisol Alfonso de Armas, the agency that accompanies the event, also took part.
On the occasion, the objectives of the conference were discussed: to make visible Cuba's commitment and work in the fight against racism and discrimination based on skin color and ethnic, national or territorial origin, highlighting its role in the Decade of Afro-descendants; to exchange experiences between different countries on the confrontation and prevention of racism and to debate issues of inclusion, integration, equality, equity and respect for identities.
Pre-Conference activities will be held on the 7th and 8th in different locations. On the 9th and 10th, plenary sessions and work in committees will take place at the Havana Convention Center. These spaces will be conducive to analysis, reflection and debate through panels and special interventions.
There will be visits to different communities in Havana and Matanzas, to educational institutions and sites of historical and cultural interest. There will also be live artistic performances by musical groups of rumba, jazz, son and chamber music.
The Conference is dedicated to the closing of the Decade of People of African Descent, proclaimed by the United Nations (UN) from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2024 and to the 50th anniversary of the presence in Cuba of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
More than a hundred participants are expected from more than 20 countries.
