The Embassy of Cuba in the United Kingdom was proud to be represented at the 2025 Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC), where our First Secretary, Pablo Ginarte, attended as a guest of honour, warmly invited by STUC and with the strong support of the Scottish Cuba Solidarity Campaign (SCSC).
Over the course of the Congress, Pablo engaged with a wide range of inspiring delegates and volunteers at the SCSC solidarity stall. He joined in meaningful conversations on the impact of the U.S. blockade, Cuba’s resilience, and the role of international solidarity in confronting injustice. These moments of shared commitment and empathy highlighted the deep respect and admiration between the Scottish trade union movement and the Cuban people.
A particularly special moment was the screening of a video message from our Ambassador, Her Excellency Ismara Vargas Walter, expressing heartfelt thanks for the long-standing support of Scottish workers and unions. The Ambassador emphasized the importance of solidarity in the face of Cuba’s ongoing challenges and praised the efforts of the Scottish movement in defending Cuba’s right to self-determination.
Pablo also participated in the official STUC reception, the formal dinner, and the Morning Star social, where he was warmly received and expressed Cuba’s gratitude for the solidarity that continues to inspire hope and strength across our nation.
We are especially grateful for the unanimous passing of Motion 114: "CUBA – OFF THE LIST", which calls for:
The immediate removal of Cuba from the U.S. list of State Sponsors of Terrorism
Ongoing union support for the Scottish Cuba Solidarity Campaign’s efforts to end the U.S. blockade
This principled resolution sends a powerful message: Cuba is not alone. We deeply thank the STUC, the SCSC, and all affiliated unions for their unwavering commitment to justice, dignity, and solidarity.
