Havana, May 04, 2023 - Ministers and senior officials from the culture sector of the countries of the Group of 77 and China are meeting this Thursday at the Convention Palace in Havana. At the opening of the meeting, the Cuban Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, is expected to speak on behalf of the country that is currently leading the organisation.
There will also be a recorded message from Ernesto Renato Ottone, Assistant Director-General for Culture of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco).
In addition, Lazare Assomo, Director of Unesco's World Heritage Centre, who is attending the first International Congress on Cultural Heritage in Havana, is expected to speak. One of the topics to be discussed by the plenary will be culture as a global public good, as well as mechanisms and alternatives for South-South cooperation for sustainable development.
South Africa and Lesotho will participate virtually in this event, under the themes "Integral Management of Cultural Heritage" and "Culture as a global public good, as well as South-South cooperation mechanisms and alternatives for sustainable development", respectively.
