Victoria, Septembrer 4th, 2023. Organized by the National Conservatory of Performing Arts and the Seychelles School of Dance, under the auspices of the National Arts and Crafts Council (NACC), the 10th edition of the Biennale de Danse de Seychelles took place from August 22 to September 2, under the theme of "Water".
This year the participating countries were Russia, Mauritius, Rodrigues, Congo and Seychelles, while Cuba was present virtually with a video of the National Folkloric Ensemble of Cuba, performing the piece "Yemaya" by Cuban choreographer Rodolfo Reyes.
During the two weeks of the event, the dancers held workshops and worked on the staging of their performances. In the final gala, each dance group performed a presentation on "Water", the theme of the festival, and concluded with a gala that united all the dancers performing a piece by South African choreographer Refiloe Mogoje, a special guest at the event.
The Cuban Ambassador to Seychelles thanked the organizers of the event for the invitation, especially Jimmy Savy, Pierre Joseph and Ruth Barbe. She also acknowledged the National Council of Performing Arts of the Ministry of Culture of Cuba and the direction of the National Folkloric Ensemble for the support received to achieve the presence of Cuba.
The Biennale de Danse de Seychelles is a festival organized every two years with the aim of sharing knowledge and dance techniques and promoting cultural exchange among the participating countries.
