The 41st Meeting of the Assembly of Parties of the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (ITSO) was held in the United States from October 8 to 10. Among the participants were officials from the Cuban Embassy in that country, Yuliet Tain and Anabel Serrallonga. During the event, the Cuban delegation issued the following statement:
Director General, Chairman, ambassadors, ladies and gentlemen representatives of the Parties:
The Cuban delegation would like to congratulate Mr. Patrick Masambu for his dedication, effort, and responsibility as Director General of ITSO. Despite the financial difficulties and obstacles presented during the last few years of his mandate, he has managed to ensure that ITSO complies with its functions and maintains the security and correct use of the Parties' common patrimony.
Cuba would like to express its concern and suggest that future PAs be held in a hybrid format, taking into account the difficulties that developing countries face in attending these meetings due to logistical issues.
Our country, for more than 60 years, has suffered the most severe economic and financial blockade imposed by the US government, which has been intensified with the unjust inclusion in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, which has led to a difficult economic and financial situation that affects the Cuban population, including the telecommunications sector. We call for the need to guarantee full and equal participation of all countries that are Parties to ITSO in matters related to their membership, as well as in the activities, meetings, workshops, events, and others that may be convened by this Organization.
We believe that all Parties to this Organization must continue to work together, move forward, and strengthen it. The future of ITSO represents the security of our Common Heritage.
Finally, congratulations to Dr. Renata Brazil-David on her new appointment as Director General, and we wish her success in her new duties.
Finally, we would also like to thank all those who made this Assembly possible, especially the African countries for their proposals.
Thank you very much to all those who made this Assembly possible, especially the African countries for their proposals.
