Cuba participates in the Friends of BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting

Cape Town, June 1, 2023 - Cuba will participate in the meeting of Foreign Ministers of BRICS friends to be held this June 2 in Cape Town, South Africa. The Cuban delegation to this important event is headed by the First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, and also includes Rodolfo Benítez Verson, Director General of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Enrique Orta González, Cuban Ambassador to South Africa.

Cuba is attending for the first time a meeting of this coalition of countries made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and on this occasion it is doing so in its capacity as President of the G-77 group plus China.

One of the main objectives of this event is to consolidate dialogue and cooperation among the countries of the South in order to face the many common challenges in the international sphere.

This ministerial meeting is part of the preparations for the BRICS Heads of State Summit that will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 22 to 24 August.
