Canberra, August 21, 2026. The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Australia actively participated in Hispanic Day 2026, held at the Yhuuramulum Building of Canberra Girls Grammar School. The event brought together diplomatic representatives from Spanish-speaking countries and approximately one hundred students from various schools in the Australian capital, including young people of Cuban descent.
The activity aimed to introduce students to the cultural diversity of the Hispanic world through interactive, dynamic, and educational workshops. Within this framework, the Embassy of Cuba presented a space dedicated to national identity through language, literature, and various symbols representative of Cuban culture, with an emphasis on the active participation of young people.
The workshop also offered an opportunity to present José Martí as an essential figure in Cuban identity and, at the same time, as a universal writer. His ideas on education, freedom, dignity, peace, and solidarity remain fully relevant and were explored through brief excerpts from his work, adapted to the age of the participants.
During the day, the students learned Spanish expressions and became familiar with aspects of daily life and Cuban traditions. The methodology employed fostered direct exchange, curiosity, and participation, allowing the young people to approach Cuban culture in an accessible and engaging way.
The activity unfolded in an atmosphere of enthusiasm, respect, and cooperation. Hispanic Day 2026 provided a valuable opportunity to share the country's rich culture, strengthen ties with the Australian educational community, and promote mutual understanding between Cuba, Australia, and the Spanish-speaking world. The event reaffirmed the importance of cultural exchange and of Spanish as a bridge between peoples, as well as the role of cultural diplomacy in promoting greater understanding and closer ties between societies.
