Cuba participated as Special Guest in the majestic ceremony, organized by the Government of the South African province of Free State, one of the provinces with the best academic results in that African country. The Cuban delegation to the event was headed by Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson.
The event was attended by thousands of students from pre-university schools in the town, a representation of students who graduated this year from the University, and representatives of Russia, China, Belarus and Cuba, countries with an important role in the formation of young people of the province in several university specialties.
As part of the cooperation programs between Cuba and South Africa, hundreds of Free State students have been able to complete their medical studies in our country and several dozen of them will continue to graduate in the coming years.
In July of this year 2018, 35 Free State students returned to their province, after successfully completing 5 years of medicine in Cuba. They are currently inserted doing internships in provincial universities and hospitals, as part of the final stage of training before receiving their diploma as Medicine graduates, by the middle of next year.
In his speech at the event, the Cuban Ambassador reiterated the Cuban Government's willingness to continue cooperation with the province, in which dozens of Cuban doctors work, as part of the legacy of our two historic leaders, Fidel Castro and Mandela. He also urged students to continue to excel and wished them success in their future exams.
In the activity, students who aspire to enter the university signed a commitment that encourages them to be better students, avoid academic fraud and honor the commitment to educational improvement assumed with their family and their country. The Cuban Ambassador also signed the commitment as a witness.
