Cuba present at the 20th Latin American Film Festival in Australia

Canberra, 14 August 2025 – The Cuba's Ambassador to Australia, Tanieris Diéguez La O, attended the opening of the 20th Latin American Film Festival (LAFF) in Canberra, an event that celebrates the richness and diversity of Latin American cinema. The festival, organized by the embassies of 13 Latin American countries, including Cuba, presents a selection of films that reflect the vibrant histories and cultures of the region.

The LAFF, which will take place in several Australian cities, kicked off in Canberra with a ceremony that brought together diplomats, filmmakers, and film enthusiasts.

As part of the festival, the Cuban film El Mayor, a historical drama that pays tribute to independence hero Ignacio Agramonte, will be screened on August 25 in Canberra. The Ambassador invited the Australian public to attend this screening, which reflects the spirit of resistance and the struggle for Cuba's sovereignty.

The LAFF, supported by the Council for Relations between Australia and Latin America (COALAR), will continue to be a free space for all audiences, promoting multiculturalism and dialogue.
