Benoni, 15 September 2025 – The Second Secretary of the Cuban Embassy in South Africa, Bryan Betancourt Brito, participated in the opening day of the 8th Central Committee of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU). The central committee is meeting from today until Thursday, 18 September under the theme “Building working-class unity for economic liberation towards socialism”.
Solidarity with Cuba was mentioned several times during the day. For example, the organisation's president, Zingiswa Losi, reflected on the need for concrete actions of solidarity with Cuba and other just causes around the world, such as Palestine, Venezuela and Western Sahara.
The general secretary of the South African Communist Party, Solly Mapaila, also condemned the economic blockade against Cuba and its continued inclusion on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, which he described as unjust and unilateral. He also made a similar call to the COSATU president, urging continued support for the Cuban Revolution through concrete actions and solidarity projects.
