Cuba presents advances in its anti-drug policy.

Warsaw, 7 May, 2025

Cuba presented the progress achieved in the implementation of its anti-drug policy during the Annual Meeting of the Cooperation Programme on Drugs between Latin America, the Caribbean and the European Union (COPOLAD), which took place in Warsaw, Poland, on 6 and 7 May. The meeting brought together national drug authorities from both regions in the continuation of a bi-regional dialogue focused on a common strategy to confront this scourge.

During her speech at the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Justice, Pilar Alicia Varona Estrada, highlighted the upcoming launch of the National Drugs Observatory of Cuba in alliance with the COPOLAD Programme. The initiative will allow the articulation of an information and research network with an early warning system that will complement the work of the National Drug Commission and provide evidence for the decision-making process on this issue.

In this way, Cuba ratifies its commitment to confront and prevent the world drug problem, continuing to update the national legal system in accordance with the country's zero tolerance policy. The Observatory will also contribute to the promotion of international cooperation in this field.

The Annual Meeting of the COPOLAD Programme is the prelude to the High Level Meeting of the CELAC-EU Coordination and Cooperation Mechanism on Drugs. The Cuban delegation was also integrated by Dennis Cásares Benítez, counselor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Bryan Gual Navarrete, First Secretary of the Cuban Mission in Brussels.
