Cuba reaffirms its commitment to the elimination of nuclear weapons.

Cuba will continue to advocate for the total, transparent, irreversible and verifiable elimination of nuclear weapons, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez said today.

This was stated by the foreign minister on the social network X, on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the atomic bombing of the Japanese city of Nagasaki, which he described as a huge crime committed by U.S. imperialism.

The atomic bombs dropped on August 6 and 9, 1945 on the civilian populations of the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki made Japan the only nation to have suffered attacks of this magnitude.

Approximately 66,000 people lost their lives in Hiroshima at the moment of the explosion, while in Nagasaki it is estimated that 70,000 died at the moment; but in both cases hundreds of thousands of people (mostly women and children) died later as a result of the radiation.
