London, September 25. Cuban Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Ismara Vargas Walter, participated in the commemoration of International Maritime Day 2025, organized by the IMO. The Ambassador was accompanied by First Secretary for Economic and Commercial Affairs Soima Méndez Lazo.
The Cuban delegation took advantage of the occasion to strengthen international dialogue on ocean security, port management, and the protection of the marine environment. They also reaffirmed their country's commitment to global maritime security, regional cooperation, and the sustainable development of shipping and the blue economy.
Under the theme "Our Oceans, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity," the IMO highlighted the global responsibility for ocean protection and sustainable development. Several initiatives were launched throughout the day to commemorate the event. The headquarters of this multilateral organization was particularly noteworthy, illuminated in blue on the evening of September 25 to promote this year's theme.
Member States, intergovernmental organizations in cooperation with the IMO Secretariat, and non-governmental organizations in consultative status were invited to illuminate monuments and iconic buildings in their respective countries.
