Cuba reaffirms in the United Nations Congress on Victims of Terrorism its firm condemnation of this scourge.

New York, September 8, 2022. The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Fernández de Cossío, spoke at the United Nations Congress on Victims of Terrorism, an event in which Cuba reaffirmed its firm condemnation of this scourge. Cossío specified that “Cuba condemns firmly all acts, methods and practices of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, by whomever, against whomever and wherever they are committed, whatever their motivations, including those in which States are involved, directly or indirectly. ”.

As a result of terrorist acts, Cuba has suffered in the last 63 years the harrowing experience of 3,478 Cubans killed and 2,099 injured and disabled.

The Cuban diplomat explained how the multiple acts of State terrorism committed against the Island have been actions organized, supported, financed and executed, for the most part, from United States territory, by the government of that country or by individuals and organizations. who act with impunity or receive the backing of that government.

Recently, he exemplified, violent acts in Cuba continue to be incited and financed from United States territory, even publicly, via digital networks. These have been reported through official and operational channels to the United States government and its law enforcement authorities.

Fernández de Cossío also stressed that there is no evidence or record linking Cuba to terrorist acts or their promotion or sponsorship. However, arbitrarily and unilaterally, the US State Department has included Cuba on a list of countries that allegedly sponsor international terrorism, he said.

Said designation by the US administration constitutes an action without any basis, authority or international support, with which they try to justify the economic blockade with which, for more than six decades, the United States has tried to punish the Cuban people.

Cuba was the fifth country to become a State Party to the 19 international conventions related to terrorism, recently raising the political and legal commitment against this scourge to constitutional status.
