Cuba Rejects Dominican Republic Government's Subordination to the Aggressive Policy of the United States
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba rejects in the strongest terms the decision by the government of the Dominican Republic to expel ten diplomatic officials from the Cuban Embassy in that country and their families.
There is no justification whatsoever for this decision by the Dominican authorities. Cuban diplomats have always acted in strict adherence to the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and with absolute respect for the laws of that sister nation.
There is no other explanation for this action than the Dominican Republic government's submission to pressure from the U.S. government, which, in its efforts to isolate Cuba, has set out to damage our diplomatic relations with the countries of the region.
This is not the first time the Dominican government has aligned itself with the hostile policy and aggressive escalation of the United States against our country. Cuba's exclusion from the postponed 10th Summit of the Americas and the Dominican Republic's change of vote on the Cuban resolution against the blockade in the UN General Assembly are examples of this.
With this latest act, the Dominican authorities are significantly damaging the ties between the two governments, but they will not be able to sever the deep and historic bonds between the Cuban and Dominican peoples, forged from the struggles of both countries for independence to the present day. Distinguished Dominicans are part of the glorious pages of Cuban history, and vice versa. Our peoples share cultural, economic, and solidarity ties, which we will not renounce.
The Dominican people can always count on the unwavering friendship and solidarity of the Cuban people.
