Tuesday 8 April:- Cuba is participating in the International Conference of the Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language, IATEFL 2025, which is being held in Edinburgh until 11 April.

During the opening plenary at the partners' meeting, the project Kinship: Learning English as a Family, presented by the Association for the Promotion of English Language Teaching and Culture (APCELI), was recognised as one of the winners of the year. This initiative, developed by young teachers from the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the University of Pedagogical Sciences "Enrique José Varona" (UCPEJV), has had a notable social impact in the community of La Guinera, Havana.

Professor Isora Enriquez, representative of APCELI and the UCPEJV, presented the paper "Empowerment of the teaching identity through the educational legacy", in which she highlighted the legacy of the Literacy Campaign and its influence on the identity of Cuban teachers, specifically those trained to teach English.

A special moment was when, from the audience, renowned educator and musician Jeremy Harmer recalled the historical experience of Cuba as a source of inspiration for his song "I AM the teacher", dedicated to the martyr Manuel Ascunce.

Likewise, professors Ivanie and Carlos Enrique, from the Central University "Marta Abreu" in Las Villas and the General Directorate of Education in Villa Clara, shared the progress of the teacher training programme in their province, supported by the British Council.

Cuban participation in IATEFL 2025 has been praised for its innovation, commitment and spirit of solidarity, reflecting the island's young talent and educational potential.

IATEFL, founded in 1967, is today one of the world's most influential associations in English language teaching.
