In almost 6 decades of internationalist work, Cuban doctors had never been slandered like those promoted by the United States Government this year. "The carelessness, the lie, the perversity of the empire crumble before the moral height accumulated by the dignified history of Cuban missions in health," said Cuban President Miguel Díaz Canel Bermúdez on his Twitter account.
This week the Cuban Foreign Ministry denounced a millionaire plan of Washington to discredit and sabotage the health agreements that the Caribbean country established with several nations of the world.
The plan funded by the US Agency for International Development (Usaid) is another of the pressures exerted against several governments to hamper medical cooperation, the statement said.
“This is an immoral slander with a lack of foundation, the allegations of Washington that the Caribbean country incurs in the trafficking of persons or the practice of slavery, in order to denigrate the work of health professionals and technicians in several countries, ”he adds
Since 1963 with the first medical mission sent to Algeria, more than 407,000 Cuban health professionals have served in 164 nations.
Official figures indicate that some 55,000 Cubans in health missions were fulfilling mission in 67 countries in 2018.
