Cuba wins bronze medal at the 66th International Mathematics Olympiad in Australia

Canberra, 19 July 2025. The Cuban delegation, composed by six talented students, participated with remarkable performance in the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), held from July 10 to 20, 2025 in Sunshine Coast, Australia.

During the competition, the Cuban students solved problems designed to test their reasoning and creative solving skills, competing with a total of 609 participants from around the world. The delegation was guided by Professor Prudencio Guerrero, who worked hard to prepare the students, reflecting Cuba's solid educational system and its emphasis on academic excellence.

The young Marcel Gámez Salvó won a bronze medal, a great achievement for Cuba after 10 years of not having won a medal in that competition. Two students, Erick and Heidy, also received honorable mentions.

The Cuban Embassy in Australia thanks the IMO organizing committee and the Australian authorities for the warm welcome given to the Cuban delegation. Cuba reaffirms its commitment to continue participating in international events that promote academic exchange and friendship among peoples.
