Nicosia, Cyprus, February 11, 2026.—Invited by the China-Cyprus Solidarity Association and the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Nicosia, the Cuban ambassador, Rubén Pino Martínez, attended this Wednesday the ceremony marking the Chinese New Year at the municipality of Lakatamia, in this capital.
The gala for the new "Year of the Horse," according to the Chinese calendar, was sponsored by His Excellency, the Deputy Minister of Tourism of Cyprus, Mr. Kostas Koumis, the President of the aforementioned solidarity association, Mr. Che Huali, and its Honorary President, Mr. Chris Michael. An evening that became a fitting tribute to the increasingly numerous presence of the Asian giant's community in Cyprus and in celebration of the excellent bilateral relations between both nations.
A cultural and idiosyncratic legacy, latent and alive throughout the Cypriot island territory, in close interconnection with the best popular traditions of this Eastern Mediterranean island, as could be enjoyed in the multifaceted and colorful presentation offered by the Chinese-Cypriot cultural team of the host association.
A culturally enriching proposal to welcome the New Year 2026, shared by the notable representation of the accredited diplomatic corps, attendees at the gala, validated by His Excellency, the Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of China in Cyprus, Mr. Zhou Yunliang, in recognition of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cyprus and China.
