Helsinki, December 1, 2017. A lively ceremony marked this Friday, December 1, the historic start of a regular direct flight of the airline Finnair that will link the cities of Helsinki and Havana with two flights weekly. The opening ceremony of the flight in Terminal 2 of Helsinki´s airport was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Finland, Mr. Eduardo Lazo Pérez, who thanked the directors and all the staff of the prestigious airline for the confidence deposited in his country when choosing it as a destination.

The Ambassador stressed in his speech that this new route will undoubtedly contribute to increase the existing exchanges between Finland and Cuba, two countries and peoples that historically have maintained friendly relations in several fields. He pointed out that despite the unjust and illegal economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States. against Cuba for more than half a century, which seeks to isolate the Caribbean country, every year millions of tourists from all continents travel to Cuba, including thousands of Finns, and return to their countries proud and happy to have enjoyed their visit to the island and the hospitality of the Cubans.
Besides, Mr. Mikko Turtiainen, vice president of the airline in charge of global sales, one of the passengers of the inaugural flight, said at the ceremony that for Finnair it is a great satisfaction to open this new route to Cuba.
