The Cuban Ambassador attends the Premiere of the Play 'El Che' in Cyprus
Nicosia, Cyprus - On the evening of October 16, 2023, Cuban Ambassador Angel Gustavo Suarez Cordero participated in the premiere of the play “El Che”, presented for the first time in Cyprus at the Cyprus Workers' Federation Theater (PEO) in Paphos. The play, starring Vasilis Kyriacou and director Yiannis Stamatiou, served as a tribute to the 57th anniversary of the assassination of Ernesto Che Guevara, was performed under the auspices of the Cuban Embassy in Cyprus, and organized by the House of Letters and Arts of Paphos, the Cyprus-Cuba Friendship Association, the Cyprus Workers' Federation of Paphos and the Cyprus Peace Council. Mr. Stelios Sofocli, President of the House of Letters and Arts of Paphos, paid tribute to Che Guevara, highlighting the importance of his legacy in the struggle for justice and freedom. In his opening remarks, Mr. Sofocli stressed that cultural events such as this one are fundamental for the understanding of the history of the peoples.
At the end of the play, the Cuban Ambassador expressed his gratitude to the actor Vasilis Kyriacou for his outstanding performance on stage, praising his attachment to the story narrated in the monologue, which not only tells the life and work of the Heroic Guerrilla, but also the struggle of the Cuban people for their independence and against imperialism.
The event brought together many friends of the city and various personalities committed to peace and friendship between Cyprus and Cuba, highlighting the relevance of remembering and celebrating the figure of Che Guevara in the current context (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
