Nicosia, September 28, 2022. - The Ambassador of Cuba, Angel Gustavo Suarez Cordero attended on Wednesday morning, September 28, at the university campus, the event organized by the Language Center of the University of Cyprus (Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου | University Of Cyprus), in collaboration with the Representation of the European Commission in the country, to celebrate the European Day of Languages.
The event was opened by the Rector of the University of Cyprus, Mr. Tasos Christofides, the Head of the Office of European and International Affairs, Lifelong Learning and Adult Education of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Ioannis Savvides, the Associate Professor of Linguistics and Didactics of the University of Cyprus, Ms. Fryni Kakoyianni-Doa and the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Mr. Michalis Michael.
A round table discussion followed with the theme of "Multilingualism and lifelong language learning", with panelists Marilena Karyolemou, Professor of Linguistics - University of Cyprus with the topic "Foreign language teaching policy: which languages are taught to which audience and why? ", Niki Papadopoulou Papa, former Head of the European and International Affairs Office, Advisor to the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth - Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, with "Language Policies and Actions of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth", Androulla Papakyriakou, Associate Professor of Linguistics - University of Nicosia with "Language Education of Adult Immigrants and Refugees in Cyprus", Georgios Floros, Associate Professor of Translation Studies - University of Cyprus with "Multilingualism: Language proficiency or comparative ability? " and Spyros Armostis, Professor of Linguistics - University of Cyprus, President of the Cyprus Society of Linguistics with "Inherent multilingualism in Cyprus".
At the same time, there was an opportunity to learn about the languages offered by the University of Cyprus to its undergraduate students with 15-minute online sessions for each language (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
