Just at 5:30 in the afternoon, on 18 June 2023, the Cuban Ambassador to Cyprus, Angel Gustavo Suárez Cordero gave a lecture on the Cuban Education System to the young people and participants of the Skala Festival in the Larnaca region.
For more than 45 minutes, the Cuban diplomat talked about the realities, challenges and results of the Cuban education system, which is public, secular and universal, and where students have equal opportunities.
The Ambassador of the Caribbean island also exchanged on the direct effects of the blockade imposed more than 60 years ago by the US government on the educational system in Cuba and the shortcomings that this important sector of the country suffers.
The Cuban diplomat exchanged with those present about the common challenges of education in Cuba and Cyprus, while answering questions from the audience.
The Skala Fest in the Larnaca region is a local festival organised by the territorial branch of the United Democratic Youth Organisation (EDON). The festival is held in Zouhouris Square in the Skala area of Larnaca and offers various artistic programmes and activities such as music, dance, theatre, cinema, literature, painting, photography and much more.
The Association of Friendship with Cuba in Cyprus also had a stand to present the Caribbean island, where information was shared and CDs on the history of Cuba and information brochures were given.
Present during the Ambassador's conference were Andreas Pasiourtides, Member of Parliament for the district of Larnaca; Vera Policarpou, Head of International Relations of AKEL, members of the Municipality, friends of Solidarity with Cuba and young people interested in learning more about the reality of Cuba (EmbaCuba Cyprus).
