Cuban ambassador in Cyprus promotes meeting with Pluton Travel & Tours to boost tourism to the Caribbean island.

Nicosia, Cyprus, February 18, 2026. The Cuban ambassador in Cyprus, Rubén Pino Martínez, made a visit this Tuesday, February 17, to the agency "Pluton Travel & Tours" in Nicosia, where he was welcomed by its General Director, Mr. Antonis Antoniou, and his commercial team in the capital.

Pino Martínez promoted this courtesy visit and exchanged views w ith the full team of the agency, mainly with its CEO and founder Antonis Antoniou, to assess the performance of visa procedures granted from this “window of Cypriot tourism to Cuba” through the digital eVisa-Cuba platform, and to encourage a possible visit by him to the island during the 44th edition of the International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2026), when the event takes place.

Executive Antoniou appreciated that this could be a quick and timely way to establish new avenues of collaboration between Pluton Travel & Tours and Cuban tour operators. He confirmed that it would be very beneficial because “I feel a deep affection for Cuba, a country I carry in my heart,” and he considers himself an “eternal admirer of the largest of the Antilles.”

During the meeting, both parties discussed the current situation of tourist demand from Cyprus and the eastern Mediterranean towards Cuba, in the face of the economic circumstances affecting the largest of the Antilles as a result of the blockade and the new pressures from the United States to prevent the import of fuels to the island.

The agency --Antoniou clarified-- has adopted new strategies, organizes trips with smaller groups, and relies on well-known Cypriot influencers who promote and continue to raise the visibility of the “Cuba” offer as a safe destination and a country of peace, making commendable efforts not to compromise the excellence of its tourism, despite the economic difficulties the nation is facing.

In this regard, he reaffirmed his commitment to continue promoting this destination and to seek alternatives in order to maintain the four annual groups it usually sends to the island.

The Cuban diplomat thanked the Cypriot tour operator for the fruitful exchange, who --as a gracious host-- reiterated his willingness to continue strengthening collaboration between both parties, for the benefit of Cuban tourism and the close relations between Cuba and Cyprus.
