Kingstown, May 14, 2026. — The Ambassador of Cuba to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Carlos Ernesto Rodríguez Etcheverry, granted an exclusive interview to the Vincentian media outlet ONE News SVG, in which he addressed various issues related to the current situation in Cuba and the complex consequences of the blockade imposed by the United States against the island.
During the interview, the Cuban diplomat placed particular emphasis on the severe effects resulting from the so-called energy blockade, a policy which, he explained, restricts Cuba’s access to fuel, technologies, financing, and spare parts needed to sustain and modernize the country’s national power system.
The ambassador pointed out that these restrictions are causing prolonged blackouts and major difficulties in the daily lives of the Cuban people, affecting essential sectors such as hospitals, transportation, food production, schools, and other basic services.
He also explained that the U.S. measures have created enormous obstacles for the acquisition of fuel and the carrying out of international financial transactions, further worsening the country’s economic and energy situation.
Rodríguez Etcheverry stressed that behind these measures lie profound humanitarian consequences that directly affect millions of Cuban families, causing suffering, limitations, and constant pressure on the population’s living conditions.
In the interview with ONE News SVG, the ambassador reiterated the Cuban government’s position rejecting the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by Washington, while also expressing gratitude for the many expressions of solidarity from the people and organizations of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The diplomat also reaffirmed Cuba’s willingness to continue strengthening relations of friendship and cooperation with Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, especially in areas of mutual interest such as health, education, and regional collaboration (Embassy of Cuba to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines/Cubaminrex).
